I’m a freelance writer, production coordinator, podcast producer, and food lover (that may be only *slightly* obsessed with every cooking channel and any foodTube videos I can find) with a base just outside of Chicago.
Being on the road several months of the year, travel is a big passion of mine. I’ve been a traveler for many years and also have lived in several locations across the U.S. and have traveled extensively in Italy. I'm most curious and driven to understand the culture and people of a place—to be a temporary local—not necessarily about the must-see sites. I’m interested in what makes a place live and breathe. Locals determine what their home should be so understanding them is key to knowing a place. And, of course, knowing your place within it.
Here's where my food lover title comes into play: I'm certified in health coaching, nutrition and wellness from training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. My writing focus when it comes to health is not about the metrics but about how we relate to the food we eat. Including primary food—those things that nourish us and our health apart from the food we eat: career, spirituality, physical activity, and relationships/community. My research interests include the similarities, but maybe especially differences, in the local food scene and primary food in my own culture and that of other locations/countries--and how they affect each other. Which is why I'm a big fan of the Blue Zones Project. Growing up in a huge melting pot I also love culturally diverse foods and recipes, so if food is your gig I can help you write about that, too.
I’m the production manager and a contributing writer for the newsletter of a non-profit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona. I’ve worked for the organization for many years—while living in Arizona and while being location independent. I have more than 15 years of experience working with them as part of an event/conference organizational team, in which we handled every stage of planning including onsite management of 300 to over 9,000 attendees. Before freelancing for this non-profit, in addition to managing the conference and volunteer registration (both online and onsite venues), I managed their marketing campaigns.
Organization is part of my DNA (or at least it feels like it) so I enjoy reviewing website design, layout, and social media marketing to find the right ideas that work for you to increase traffic and user efficiency. Decluttering and simplifying navigation on your site helps keep visitors curious and engaged. But I know how difficult and frustrating that process can be. I love organization both in the virtual (and actual world) so contact me if you need a fresh take on your site or if you just need someone to walk that walk with you, I'm happy to provide that support.
When Hesperus Films has a new project in their sights, I like to assist with production coordination of the projects including organizing notes, crew, staff, shoot information, and development and on-location assistance when needed. When you love scheduling and organizing as much as I do, this work feels like home.
